The Software visualizes medical human anatomy DICOM data in 3D using Virtual Reality (VR). The user can examine, study and teach DICOM files in a real 3-dimensional virtual environment.
Medicalholodeck visualizes medical volumetric 3D data in 3D space and offers tools for an efficient workflow. You can cut, measure, filter, alter, export and import 3D volume and mesh files in realtime and merge them with other data types in real 3d space, such as .OBJ, .STL and .FBX. This makes handling of 3D data easier, faster and more efficient than on 2D computer screens.
You will need a computer with a strong Graphics Card/GPU. We recommend the NVIDIA GTX 1080ti or GTX1080. Depending on the size of the scan and the hardware setup NVIDIA GTX1070 will also work.
Additionally you will need a HMD - a Head-Mounted Display. We recommend the HTC Vive and the HTC Vive Pro. Other HMD’s will also work, see below.
Medicalholodeck Pro is the professional Version of Medicalholodeck DICOM viewer. It comes with full functionality and tools for an efficient workflow. In the pro version you can also join the public Medicalholodeck cloud.
The cloud-version of Medicalholodeck can connect multiple users of Medicalholodeck by the internet in 3-dimensional virtual space. They can collaborate on the same datasets and see and hear each other.
In the video you can see 3 users on the Medicalholodeck. They collaborate and discuss medical DICOM data in realtime. Everybody is able to see and hear the other users.
This is the Medicalholodeck version with limited features and functions, but for a lower price. You can load DICOM and .MH files. In the basic version you can also join the public Medicalholodeck cloud.
Medicalholodeck Free is the free version of Medicalholodeck. You can load our proprietary data format .MH, work on it, change and export .MH files, but you can not load DICOM files in DICOM format or 3D mesh files such as .OBJ, .STL or .FBX. In the free version you can also join the public Medicalholodeck cloud.
A HMD is a pair of computer glasses. You need them to see digital content in real 3-dimensional space.
Medicalholodeck is originally developed for HTC Vive and Vive Pro. But it also works with other HMD’s such as Oculus Rift or Windows Mixed Reality HMD's, see below.
Yes, we recommend these HMD’s.
Yes, but you need to enable Oculus to accept steam vr apps as described here. The controller design in the app will stay the HTC Vive Controllers.
Yes. We heard from users that this works. But some hardware setups might not work. We tested the Samsung Odyssey and the Lenovo Explorer.
No.
A DICOM file contains volumetric data created by CT and MRI machines - so normally it is medical human anatomy data. But also DICOM data of animals and even shoes exist.
You can download our .MH files from the website or find online sources. If you are a medical student, talk to your professors or somebody from radiology department.
Yes, see this movie here.
Yes, see this movie here.
Besides DICOM files and our own .MH file format we support 3D mesh files in the following formats: .OBJ, .FBX, .STL
DICOM, .MH, .OBJ, .FBX, .STL
.MH, .OBJ
Yes, use the export button in the software.
In the free, basic and pro versions of Medicalholodeck no DICOM or other 3D data is leaving your computer. In the cloud version, the data has to be shared with the other users, and needs to be uploaded for that reason onto the Medicalholodeck server. Data used in the cloud will leave your computer and be stored on the server. It is therefore recommended to only use anonymized data sets with the cloud version.
